It is a remake of Tamil film Paalaivana Cholai released in 1981. Manchu Pallaki rocked the youth of the 80s for the realistic characters and Suhasini’s graceful presence as the female lead. In fact, Vamshi worked as an assistant director under Kala Tapasvi K.Vishwanath for epic film Shankarabharanam earlier, but this first film of his proved that he had an own viewpoint of how to make a successful film. This film marks the debut of a fantastic director with artistic touch- Vamshi, who made some phenomenal films with his own mark later for more than a decade- and still continues to enthrall audience with his unique view. Naturally, for the audience who were so used to watch senior artists like ANR, Sr.NTR in youngster roles, this came by a thrill. The protagonists are completely fresh and new on the silver screen, with never before seen histrionics and youthfulness. But 80s era saw a new style of such tragedy films thanks to Vamshi’s first film Manchu Pallaki. Telugu Cinema is not devoid of tragedies and sad love stories from the times immemorial.
